The Floyd-Carpenter House is a stunning example of Neoclassical architecture, built in 1903 by renowned local builder C.C. “Cam” Davis. Commissioned by L.W. Floyd, who established Newberry’s first telephone system, the home features a striking semi-circular portico supported by grand Corinthian columns. Often referred to as `The White House,' it stands as one of Newberry's most iconic residences. The current owners have recently revitalized the home. The exterior of the house has been freshly painted a stunning white, complemented by a wrap-around porch in a classic cadet blue — reflecting traditional Newberry porch colors. Inside, the bedrooms have been replastered and painted in stylish tones, including an owner’s suite, a downstairs single bedroom, and several upstairs rooms. The kitchen has been transformed into a charming eat-in space that overlooks a spacious rear garden, and includes modern appliances such as ovens, a dishwasher, a large refrigerator, and a microwave. The main and side hallways have also been updated, along with the upstairs laundry room, which features a washer and dryer. The home retains many original features, such as large pocket doors, grand chandeliers, and decorative coving. It includes five bedrooms and four bathrooms, and a plaque indicates its status on the National Register of Historic Places. The Floyd-Carpenter House also honors the Carpenter family who owned the house and a downtown department store for many decades.
