Southeast Columbia

Southeast of Columbia, where suburbs and shopping centers give way to pastoral landscapes and expansive lands, you’ll find areas like Horrell Hill, Eastover, and Lower Richland. This region, speckled with historic plantations, offers a glimpse into the area’s rich past. Southeast Columbia is also known for McEntire Joint National Air Base and the nearby Shaw Air Force Base, the home of the Air Force’s largest F-16 combat wing. An unmissable natural wonder is the synchronized firefly event at Congaree National Park, South Carolina’s only National Park. It’s a place of breathtaking beauty, with ancient cypress trees, alligators, and unique wildlife, all viewable from the comfort of a boardwalk. Further southeast lies Sumter County, steeped in history and cultural diversity. Its residents, both natives and newcomers, enjoy the pleasant climate, affordable living, welcoming neighborhoods, and a variety of cultural experiences.
