Southeast Columbia
South east of Columbia, suburbs and shopping centers blend quickly into farmland and acreage including Horrell Hill, Eastover, and lower Richland. Former plantations from the past dot the landscape. Southeast Columbia is home to McEntire Joint National Air Base and nearby Shaw Air Force Base where the Air Force’s largest combat F-16 wing is housed. Ever heard of synchronized fireflies? Don’t miss South Carolina’s only National Park, Congaree National Park, home to the popular annual firefly display. Explore its black rivers where you will see ancient cypress trees, alligators, and rare flora and fauna viewable from the safety of a boardwalk if you prefer.
South east of Richland County lies Sumter County. Rich in history, Sumter County has a diverse population of native South Carolinians and transplants alike who enjoy the mild weather, low cost of living, friendly neighborhoods and many cultural offerings.
